Are you magnesium deficient?

Magnesium and calcium are vital nutrients for our bodies. It is also important that your calcium and magnesium levels are balanced. Calcium and magnesium play exact opposite roles. Calcium makes makes muscles contract and magnesium makes muscles relax.

Many people don’t realize that magnesium is needed for over 300 biochemical functions. Even though we use up magnesium in our bodies everyday our bodies do not replenish it so we need to refuel it with this mineral. Some of the things magnesium does is help muscles and nerves function, keep your heart rhythm stable, strengthen bones, regulate blood sugar and blood pressure levels. As a mineral magnesium also supports a healthy immune system.

So how do you know if you are magnesium deficient? Well, most people do have a magnesium deficiency. Mostly because we underestimate how much magnesium we need. Inadequate diet, intense workouts, stress, antibiotics, diuretics, oral contraceptives, cortisone, and insulin all contribute to magnesium deficiency. That’s just to name a few things!

The next logical question is what are the symptoms of magnesium deficiency? Lack of magnesium can cause:

  •         headaches
  •         PMS
  •         abnormal heart rhythm
  •         sleeplessness
  •         anxiety
  •         muscle spasms
  •         fatigue

Often times when people do supplement their diet with magnesium they use tablets which our bodies do not fully absorb. A great alternative is a product called Calm Plus Calcium.
