Making Your New Year’s Resolution Stick
Have you resolved to quit smoking, lose weight, start exercising or otherwise improve your health habits this year? How do you make sure that you do indeed make your goals? So many times, we drag out and brush off the same old resolutions year after year – is there a way to make it work this time?
Yes, there is.
The thing about a New Year’s resolution – or any decision to change a habit – is that to change your behaviour, you must, must, must do something different than you did to form the unhealthy habit.
Obvious, right?
But the not-so-obvious part, the thing which is violated time and time again is this – doing something different entails applying a technology to change the behaviour.
A definition of “stupidity” is, “Doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result.”
If we want to quit smoking, we must apply technology to help us quit. Studies have shown that it is as difficult to kick nicotine as it is heroin. We need all the applied skill and knowledge we can muster if we are going to be successful. Click here to get information on how I can help you quit smoking once and for all.
If we want to lose weight or start to exercise, we will have to apply the correct technology of diet and exercise. We intuit this – this is why new fad diet books create huge waves as they become wildly popular – for a while. The truth is, most diets have a shelf life somewhere between milk and yogurt.
The best thing to do regarding dieting is to gain a basic understanding of food and nutrition, then work out a plan based on the known technology of nutrition that will work. Fad diets will always work for a bit – but ultimately fail when the shortcuts used to drop pounds in a hurry catch up with a body. Chiropractic is complementary medicine to the work of medical doctors. Based on the Hippocratic tradition that is thousands of years old, we in Chiropractic work to help patients achieve their health goals by gently empowering the body to make proper use of its own innate healing power. It is the applied technology of nutrition and healing to make a body well.
Whether your goal is to lose weight, quit smoking, have more energy or improve your quality of life, my practice offers technology to help you achieve your New Year’s resolutions for real. You CAN do it. Let me help!
Love,
Dr. Dustan Mattingly, D.C.
