No one enjoys being stressed. We become crabby, short-tempered and irritable. We may lash out at people who don’t deserve our wrath, possibly even our loved ones. Sure, there are plenty of external sources of stress. For example, too many bills, difficult personal relationships or challenging work situations. But there are also internal sources of stress.
These internal sources of stress come from inside a person’s own body. They can be hard for a person to spot. They may come on very gradually. They can even seem to have no solution, especially if they have existed for years and years. Many people become so accustomed to these internal, health-related sources of stress that they may not even realize that they have been in pain all that time.
Even if a person goes to a doctor, they may be told that there is no solution for that source of stress or pain, it’s just that they are getting old, or there is no cure, there are just medications to alleviate the symptoms.
I see patients showing up with these internal sources of stress all the time. Thankfully, I have the ability to help my patients recover from many of these causes of their stress and pain.
What Causes This Internal Stress?
When I talk about internal stress, I am referring to problems like misalignments in the spine, poor nutrition or any other situations that cause one’s nervous system to become oversensitive or not sensitive enough. Because many people do not see their chiropractors often enough (or at all!) or because they are nutritionally deficient, they suffer needlessly from these causes of internal stress.
When these stresses are present, what symptoms might follow?
- Low energy
- Brain Fog
- Disinterest in life
- Low mood
- Muscle spasms
Have you ever known someone who suffered from symptoms like these? Did they feel hopeful about finding a solution? Did they even seem aware that there might be a solution? Were they just so stressed that life was no fun?
We’ve all known people who were suffering in this way.
Chiropractic Plus Nutrition as an Excellent Solution
The wonderful thing is that chiropractic care can help many people in this situation. Resolving this situation could be fairly fast or it could take some months for the body to recover. What is most important is to get started on that recovery.
When a person’s spine is straightened out, their nervous system can begin to return to normal. When they get the right nutrition, their body will start to eliminate toxins and that can make them feel better, too. Even a situation like neuropathy can improve with the right chiropractic care, nutrition and time. They can begin to exercise a little and that will begin to improve muscle tone and cardiovascular health. Even the brain can begin to function more brightly.
The first stage of a person’s recovery might mean that they suddenly realize that they are in pain and that they have been in pain for years. That realization means that their numbness is wearing off and their nervous system is finally sending messages. If they continue their treatment, they can ultimately find a resolution of their pain and the ability to start enjoying life again. At that point, it can become a much simpler matter to deal with those external stresses and maintain a more positive mood.
How We Help at Mattingly Chiropractic
Every day, we offer chiropractic adjustments to correct misalignments. We also provide patients with nutritional and lifestyle recommendations that further enable them to recover from these internal stressors. One way we do this is by providing Pressure Point Therapy—I’m the only chiropractor in the Greater St. Louis area to offer this treatment.
Pressure Point Therapy utilizes steady pressure right on a tight knot of pain embedded in a muscle. This knot can block the flow of nearby nerves, causing pain, weakness and poor function. The right kind of direct, steady pressure relieves this knot and the pain it causes. We offer this therapy as a way of improving our patients’ ability to deal with both internal and external stressors.
If you would like to experience this relief, we would like to offer you a complimentary treatment in our office. Just call 314-310-8359 to schedule an appointment.
About Dr. Dustan Mattingly: Dr. Dusty discovered chiropractic after it helped him recover from an injury he suffered while in the military. Chiropractic eliminated his neck pain, sparing him the ill effects of painkillers and surgery. He graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and then went on to study additional chiropractic techniques, the specialized treatment of sports and accident injuries and nutrition. He also mastered the art of Pressure Point Therapy to improve patients’ response to treatment. With this specialized technique, he found he could provide increased relief from pain and muscle dysfunction and help a patient recover more quickly from the effects of stress or injuries.
